Our courses
Three ways to train through a Toronto winter, from a single awareness session to a five-month program.

Monday – Saturday · 16:00–21:30
Winter Commute Awareness
Practical sessions on moving through dark parkades, bus stops and icy sidewalks with calm awareness. We work on footing over slippery ground, keeping hands free and available, and reading a route before you commit to it in the dark.
Each session stays grounded in the realities of a Toronto winter evening: black ice at curb cuts, a stairwell with one working light, a streetcar platform that empties out after nine. The group talks through what calm awareness looks like in those exact spots, then practises it outdoors in layered winter clothing so the movement still feels natural once gloves and a heavy coat are involved.
- A seasonal route-planning worksheet for your regular commute
- A reflective zipper pull to keep visible after dusk
- Printed group discussion notes from each session

Lantern Skills Course
Six weeks of foundational technique: stance, releases from grabs, striking basics and protective positions. We practise in the same scarves, gloves and boots people actually wear from November through March, because a release that only works in a t-shirt is not much use on Danforth Avenue in January.
Classes run twice a week in 75-minute blocks, building from stance and balance in week one toward combined releases and protective positions by week five. The final session is a review night where the group runs through everything learned, at a pace each person sets for themselves.
- Loaner pads for every class
- Practice video links for the length of the course
- A final review session with the full group

Long Path Program
A five-month programme that builds on the Lantern Skills course with combinations, ground movement, scenario rehearsals and monthly awareness discussions. It is designed to carry a learner through the whole stretch of short days, from the first cold snap to the spring thaw.
The pace is intermediate: this is the path for Lantern graduates or people who already have some grappling or striking background and want twenty consistent weeks of practice rather than a single course. Monthly discussion evenings cover awareness and de-escalation topics in plain conversation, away from the mats.
- Three private coaching hours across the programme
- An insulated training jacket
- An end-of-programme practice plan to keep training on your own
CA$990
Intermediate learners or Lantern graduates · 20 weeks, two sessions per week
